15,000 seedlings planted…
Heather and Carl first heard about TreeProject 15 years ago. Heather’s parents who live in Yering, Victoria, were part of a volunteer group involved in the Yarra River planting of indigenous trees with TreeProject.
Their property is named Turramurra.
Heather and Carl began their journey with TreeProject in 2013. They have 120 acres, 3 horses and 60 head of cattle. They needed shelter belts to protect and give shade to their livestock and provide wind breaks for the hills.
Over the years TreeProject volunteers, family and friends have planted over 15,000 plants native to their area.
Heather said:
“Our house is at the top of the mountain and on planting days I love seeing the all the volunteers walking up over the hill, it’s such a humbling feeling and I am filled with gratitude for this organisation.
TreeProject assists city people to grow seeds into seedlings, then organises another group of volunteers to help plant these healthy seedlings on people’s land, it’s incredible.
One day as I was walking out to greet the new group arriving and, I saw a family gathered together, looking across our paddocks and blessing our land, it was something I will always remember.
Another thing I love are the people from all different cultures and backgrounds trudging around the paddocks, getting their hands into the earth and then seeing the smiles on their faces after they have been breathing the country air.”
Great work TreeProject!
