Grower Application
Yes, I’d love to grow indigenous seedlings with TreeProject!
Commitment
It may take anywhere from 4 to 6 months to grow your seedlings and part of the growing season occurs during the summer holidays – something to consider if you are planning to take holidays. You are growing seedlings for a specific landholder order so it’s important to commit to the project.
Sun
Once germinated, seedlings require full sun for at least 5 hours of the day. Any less and the seedlings will not receive enough light and warmth to thrive. Not all backyards are suitable for growing due to overhanging trees, space, or perspective.
About Your Kit
A growing kit is made up of seven boxes which will fit into a standard small car spread across the boot/hatch and back seat. Each box contains approximately 48 seedlings, so the entire kit consists of 336 seedlings. Each kit will usually be a mix of species. If this is your first time growing with TreeProject, you’ll be limited to a single kit, if you’ve grown with us before, you may elect to take more than one kit.
Collecting your kit
TreeProject volunteers run kit collection days in Melbourne, Geelong and Bendigo. You will need to travel to one of these depots to pick up your kit. When kits are ready to pick up, you will be sent an email with links that will allow you to select the date and location for kit pick up.
Training
If this is your first time growing with TreeProject, you will be required to attend a face to face training session. This applies to new growers and and is also available for experienced green thumbs if requested. If you are new to growing, you may also be given the opportunity to team up with more experienced, knowledgeable growers in your area. When training dates are organised, you’ll receive an email with links that will allow you to select the date and location for training.
