Seed Pre-Treatment: Nick seed coat. Hot water soak for 48 hrs Cover seed to a depth one or two times the diameter of the seed.
Germination
Germination of pre-treated seed usually occurs within 2-52 weeks. Germination without pre-treatment of seed may be erratic over 12-24 months. To enhance germination, the following methods have been suggested (combine for best results):
Smoke treatment, soaking in hot water for 24-48 hours, peeling the waxy coat off (first soak seed in cold water overnight, then place between paper towels for 2 days), nicking of seed coat.
Optimum germination temperature 18-22°C. Higher temperatures may inhibit germination.
