Why Our Volunteer Growers Grow with Us
Every seedling grown by a TreeProject volunteer grower tells a bigger story of care for the environment, of community spirit, and of hope for a greener future. Recently, we asked our volunteer growers why they choose to grow seedlings with us. Their responses were overwhelmingly inspiring, and a powerful reminder of what makes TreeProject so special.
We’ve gathered some of their words below to share the passion and purpose that keeps our community thriving. Their reasons are as diverse as the plants we nurture, but together they show just how much impact growing a seedling kit can have.
“Cultivating community, connections and a greener future.”
“A great opportunity to support the revegetation of Victoria.”
“My climate-anxiety reached a point where it was impacting my sleep. Becoming a Tree project grower made me feel like I was doing something – even if small. Action over despair, they say.”
“Watching little tiny seeds emerge and grow, knowing they’ll develop into beautiful tall trees and help nature in so many ways. It’s supporting life.”
“I grow for Tree project as you get to be part of an active solution to climate change and habitat loss.”
“Greatly satisfying to grow from seed.”
“Caring for seedlings is what we all share.”
“A green learning journey that supports a deep awareness, understanding of and care for the world in which we live!”
“I’ve always loved the Australian bush, and this is one way I can contribute to restoration projects, even though I work full time.”
“Change comes from lots of people contributing in small ways..This is a small way in which I can contribute to a greener future.”
“I grow for the TreeProject because my son once asked me “what is the point of our life?”, and I said “to be kind to others and care for our planet”.
“I saw the ad for Tree Project on Facebook last year. Passed it over to my husband saying we could do this. He agreed and here we are, signed up for our 2nd year.”
“Growing for Tree Project feels like being part of the solution, not contributing to the problem. Seeing the seedlings emerge is like watching hope sprouting.”
“I’ve grown seedlings for TreeProject for five years and it has been one of the greatest antidotes to despair. Watching seedlings grow brings me so much joy and has taught me so much and I love knowing that I am helping create new homes and habitats for so many critters.”
“It is a gift to be taught how to grow trees from seeds and then be able to plant thousands of them on my farm. My cattle love it and my farm is becoming more beautiful and I’ve met some great people because of it! Thanks Tree Project”
“It felt purposeful to assist with growing local trees to support environmental health.”
“There is joy in planting the seeds and watching them sprout and grow, knowing they will be part of the native landscape in the future.”
“It is great to play a part in giving birth to wonderful plants for the future.”
“Sow the seeds that will be the trees planted for our next generation.”
“I grow trees because I believe in tomorrow. Every seedling is a quiet rebellion against despair—a promise to future generations that we tried.”
“Initially, I started due to guilt of my carbon footprint after travelling overseas for 18 months. It’s become a glorious way to connect with nature, community and I love caring for my tree babies :)”
“It was such an easy way to contribute meaningfully; all from home and in my own time. What surprised me most was the deep satisfaction of nurturing seeds into seedlings. Anyone who loves gardening knows the quiet joy of watching transformation happen in real time. Each new leaf felt like a small meditation on the generosity of nature. And knowing these little plants will take root in places that need restoration makes the whole experience profoundly rewarding.”
“There are few things more satisfying than tending to and then watching seeds grow into healthy seedlings, especially knowing that those seedlings will one day provide essential habitat for native birds and other wildlife.”
“Growing trees and grasses from seeds is pure joy.”
“The excitement when the first germination is seen and you feel thrilled that it’s successful!”
“From little things big things grow……”
“It’s really so simple but gives a huge amount of pleasure and sense of accomplishment, as well as giving a little back to Mother Nature and future generations.”
“I love the wildlife and biodiversity that are restored by the plantings. I have felt the shade of trees in the Australian Sun and know the cooling effect is significantly better with trees.”
“Tackling climate change from the ground up- literally! It feels so empowering to contribute to the solution.”
“Every year I grow because it is one ‘thing’ that I can do- for our future, my children’s future and for the animals that will return if we plant.”
“To think that the seedlings I grew for treeproject in the mid 1990s would be 30 year old mature trees now makes me feel happy.
Somewhere in western Victoria are some big trees that I grew from seed!”
Want to get involved? Here’s how you can help:
-
Sign up as a volunteer grower – it’s easier than you think, and you’ll be supported!
- Growers who have grown before can register within the grower portal.
-
Spread the word – share this blog with family, friends, or community groups and encourage them to grow.
-
Encourage someone new to give it a go – a small nudge from you could mean thousands more seedlings in the ground.
Every new grower helps us meet the demand from landholders across Victoria and ensures that thousands of native seedlings are planted where they’re needed most.
